What a cookie is
A cookie is a small piece of data a website asks your browser to store. Sites use them to keep you logged in, remember preferences, or measure traffic. Similar mechanisms, local storage and session storage, work the same way for the purposes of this policy.
What this site sets
This site now loads analytics (googletagmanager.com, gtag(, dataLayer), which sets cookies. This paragraph changed automatically when the tags were installed. THE COOKIE NAMES, PURPOSES AND LIFETIMES HAVE NOT YET BEEN WRITTEN, so treat this page as incomplete until they are.
What third parties set
Google, and only Google. Each page loads the Google Analytics tag from googletagmanager.com, which is the single third-party request this site makes. Everything else is still served from this domain: it embeds no widgets, loads no external fonts, and carries no advertising or social pixel. All fourteen font files are local. Until 2026-08-20 there were no third parties at all, and that is worth stating plainly rather than quietly dropping.
Links out are a different matter. Following a link to a source, or to the publisher at The Crow's Signal, takes you to a site with its own cookies and its own policy. This page describes only what happens while you are here.
The analytics cookies
Google Analytics 4 was installed on 2026-08-20, property G-34ZPRL61T0. Per Google's own documentation it sets the two cookies below. Both are first party, meaning they are stored against this domain rather than Google's.

Neither carries a name, an email address or anything you typed, because this site has nothing to type into and holds no names. What each one records is set out on the privacy policy.
There is still no cookie banner. That is a deliberate choice and it has a cost worth stating: readers in the EU and the UK are normally entitled to refuse analytics cookies before they are set, and a banner is the usual way that consent is collected. This site is written for US law firms and no banner is shown, so a reader outside the US should assume these cookies are set on arrival and use one of the refusals below.
Controlling cookies
Every browser lets you block or delete cookies, and doing so will not affect this site, because it does not use any. If that changes, the options for controlling what is set will be described here.
