Terms of Service

This site publishes research and takes nothing from you: no account, no payment, no form, no subscription. These terms are correspondingly short.

Acceptance

By using this site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the site. We may update them; the version live at this URL is the one that applies, and material changes are reflected in the last-updated date above.

What this site is, and is not

This site is one thing: a place to read research about how US consumer law firms run client intake, and what the software sold for that job documents.

This site is not:

  • a product purchase or subscription,
  • a self-service software application,
  • a substitute for professional advice, and specifically not for legal advice, which this site never gives. See the disclaimer,
  • a contract for consulting services. Consulting engagements begin only with a separate, written agreement signed by both parties.

Operator

The Legal Intake Lab is published by The Crow's Signal, a one-person consulting practice operated by Art Nikashin from Kazakhstan. References to "we", "us" and "our" refer to that practice.

Use of the site

You agree not to:

  • scrape the site at a rate or volume that interferes with normal operation,
  • attempt to bypass, disable or compromise any security mechanism,
  • use the site to send unsolicited messages, malicious code or automated abuse,
  • use the site to violate any law that applies to you.

Reasonable use for personal reading, sharing with attribution and citing in your own work is welcome and needs no permission. If you are quoting a figure from here, quote the source it is attributed to as well: every figure on this site names one, and the point of the exercise is that the chain stays intact.

Intellectual property

The writing, structure, research method and design of this site are the work of The Crow's Signal unless otherwise marked. You may quote from it with attribution and a link.

Much of what appears here is not ours to license. Quoted passages, figures and capture excerpts belong to the publishers named beside them and appear here as short attributed quotation for the purpose of examining what those sources actually say. Product names and brand marks belong to their owners and appear for identification only; their presence is not affiliation, endorsement or sponsorship in either direction.

Accuracy, and what to do about an error

This site's whole method is that a statement can be followed to a dated snapshot of its source. That makes errors findable, which means we would rather have them reported than not. Corrections and how to send one are on About. There is no warranty that the site is free of error, and it is a living document: some statements will be wrong, and some will become wrong as their sources change.

Liability

The site is provided as it is. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from your use of it, from decisions taken on the basis of anything published here, or from third-party sites reached through it. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Links to other sites are references, not endorsements. We do not control them and are not responsible for what they publish or collect. Quoting a source here is not agreement with every position that source has taken; on this site it is frequently the opposite.
